Appliance Removal on Martha's Vineyard
Old appliances are among the most annoying things to get rid of here: heavy, awkward, usually stuck in the exact spot that makes the path out miserable, and subject to disposal rules that add cost. This page covers what to know before you deal with one - including why fridges cost more and what has to be disconnected first. We're Better Call Bosko, and appliance haul-away is routine for us.
What to know before you get rid of an appliance
• Refrigerant units cost more to dispose of. Fridges, freezers, and AC units contain coolant that must be professionally removed before disposal - that's why they carry higher fees at the transfer station and why they can't just be dumped.
• Some things must be disconnected first. Standard plug-in disconnections we can handle; gas lines and hardwired units should be disconnected by your plumber or electrician before we come. Send a photo and we'll tell you which is which.
• The path out is the whole job. With appliances, the stairs and doorways determine everything - a photo of the route matters as much as the appliance itself.
What we remove
Fridges, freezers (including chest freezers), washers, dryers, stoves, ovens, dishwashers, water heaters, window ACs, dehumidifiers, and microwaves. Metal gets recycled, not landfilled.
New one arriving? Old one gone same trip.
Buying the replacement off-island? We can pick up the new appliance, deliver it, and haul the old one in one visit - see on & off-island delivery. Heavy unit up a narrow staircase? See heavy lifting.
