Furniture Assembly on Martha's Vineyard:

What's Worth Doing Yourself

Not every flat-pack needs a pro - and we'll be the first to say so. This page is an honest take on furniture assembly: which pieces are genuinely fine to build yourself, which ones are worth handing off (and why), and how we can help when it's the second kind. We're Better Call Bosko, and we assemble furniture all over the island.

When to just do it yourself

A simple nightstand, a basic shelf, a small desk - if the instructions are clear and it's a one-person job, you don't need us, and paying someone would be silly. Grab the Allen key and go.

When it's worth handing off

Some pieces punish DIY, and these are the ones people most often call us for after an hour on the floor:

• IKEA PAX wardrobes — they need a level floor and a second set of hands to hang the doors straight; done wrong, they lean or the doors never align.

• Cribs and bunk beds — these have to be right, not almost-right, and we double-check every one for safety.

• Gym equipment and treadmills — heavy, fiddly, and easy to assemble in a way that's unsafe under load.

• Big multi-item days — a whole apartment or office, where the hours add up fast.

• Anything going up narrow island stairs — sometimes it's built in place because it won't fit assembled.

What we assemble

IKEA (including PAX), Wayfair, West Elm, Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, Target, and Amazon flat-pack; beds, dressers, desks, shelving, cribs, gym equipment, grills, patio sets, trampolines, playsets, and shed kits. We can disassemble too, for a move or disposal.

How we price it

We quote after seeing what you bought - photos of the boxes or a product link. Single pieces are usually one clear fixed number; big multi-item days are hourly with a minimum, explained up front. We bring the tools, and the packaging leaves with us. Fully insured.

Pairs well with delivery

Most assembly rides along with something else - we can bring the furniture AND build it (see white glove delivery), pick it up from the mainland first (see on & off-island delivery), or haul the old piece when the new one's standing (see junk removal).

Quick answers

Should I pay someone to assemble simple furniture?

No - a basic one-person piece isn't worth it. Save it for PAX, cribs, gym gear, or big multi-item days.

Do you assemble IKEA PAX?

Constantly - it's exactly the kind of piece worth handing off.

Do you take the packaging away?

Yes, all of it.

Can you come same-day?

Often, especially off-season.
