Garage Cleanout on Martha's Vineyard:

How to Actually Tackle It

A garage cleanout is never one thing — it's the broken grill, the paint cans you forgot buying, dead furniture, random lumber, and the pile that grew a pile. On this island the garage is also where "we'll deal with it after the season" hibernates for a decade. This page is a practical approach to clearing one, whether you do it yourself or hand it off. We're Better Call Bosko, and garage cleanouts are bread-and-butter for us.

A sane way to tackle it

1. Sort into four zones: keep / donate-sell / dispose / hazardous. Decide each item once.

2. Pull the hazardous stuff aside first - old paint, fuel, chemicals, propane tanks. These can't go in a regular load or the trash; they need designated collection (see the transfer station guide).

3. Donate what's usable - tools, bikes, sports gear, and furniture in decent shape can stay on-island.

4. Deal with the rest - a truck run to the transfer station if you've got the vehicle and the day, or hire it out if you don't.

When to hire it out

DIY makes sense for a small, sortable garage. It stops making sense when it's a full clear-out, the items are heavy, or you're off-island. Then we bring the truck and crew, sort with you (or by your instructions remotely), donate what we can, and hand you back a garage you can park in.

What we handle

Full and partial garage clear-outs, move-out and move-in resets, and landlord and estate garages (see estate & property cleanouts). Shed too? Combine them - see shed cleanout.

Quick answers

Can you do a partial cleanout? Yes - "just the left wall" is a normal request.

What about old paint and chemicals? Those are hazardous waste - we'll point you to the right collection route.

Will you help me decide what to keep? Yes - we sort with you, or follow your list if you're off-island.

What happens to the usable stuff? Donation first, wherever possible.
